Image Mosaicking Technology
Fully automated image mosaicking software can generate a single uniform mosaic out of any number of raw image patches.
Input image patches may be the common FITS format.
The individual FITS images may be at any resolution, in any coordinate system and projection and having any data type supported by FITS. The software correctly translates these into the user-selected resolution and coordinate system of the output mosaic.
The output coordinate systems that are supported are galactic, ecliptic, J2000 and B1950.
Sky mosaics built so far include:
- all sky IRAS mosaic (1 arc minute) composed of 430 individual images with 4 bands each
- 10 degree x 10 degree 2MASS mosaic (1 arc second) composed of 1000 individual images with 3 bands each
- 2 degree x 2 degree DPOSS mosaic (1 arc second) composed of 100 individual images with 3 bands each.
