xmparvox
NAME
xmparvox - X11/Motif based graphical user interface
for the ParVox system.
SYNOPSIS
xmparvox [-server hostname] [-port N]
[-diskbuf buffer_file]
DESCRIPTION
Xmparvox is the graphical interface of ParVox. It runs on the local
workstation and connects to netparvox running
on a remote parallel machine. Xmparvox requires a Unix workstation with
X11 capabilities. All communications between xmparvox and netparvox are
accomplished via TCP ports.
- -server hostname
- When specified, this option will cause xmparvox to connect to
netparvox running on hostname. If this option is
not specified, then xmparvox will act as a server and
wait for an incoming connection by netparvox.
- -port N
- When specified, this option sets the port number to use for the
connection to netparvox. If this is set, then netparvox should
also set this parameter. The default port is 6543.
- -diskbuf buffer_file
- This option specifies a disk buffer for local buffering of animation
image frames. Normally animation image frames are buffered to
xmparvox's local machine's memory. For large images and/or frame
counts, however, this can lead to memory exhaustion. This option
will allow buffering to disk. On SGI Irix machines, this option
will attempt to use Direct I/O for faster disk access.
Xmparvox and netparvox must be started in the proper order. The first
process to start should not use the -server hostname
option. The second process must then use the -server
hostname to connect to the first process.
